SECTION 37 MENTAL HEALTH (SCOTLAND) ACT 2015 REVIEW
The Scottish Government is carrying out a review of the arrangements currently in place for investigating the deaths of people in hospital for reasons of mental illness, personality disorder or learning disability. This includes people who have died by suicide.
The information provided by these surveys will help to inform a final report which will be presented to the Scottish Parliament in December 2018.
These surveys form part of the Scottish Government’s work to review the arrangements for investigating the deaths of patients — who at the time of death were in hospital, voluntarily or subject to detention, for treatment for mental disorder — as set out in section 37 of the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 2015.
As part of this review they want to hear from people who have experience of such investigations. And this includes:
• family members, carers and friends
• staff members who work for NHS Scotland, a local authority, a third sector organisation, a social care provider, or an independent healthcare provider.
The review team is keen for anyone who has had this experience to help them understand what does and doesn’t work well about these investigations. They invite people to share their views by completing one of the surveys below:
