About
My background is in social work, community development, psychiatric nursing and community mental health projects, including MIND (England). Realising that creativity and awareness of the body is at the heart of healing, I completed a post-graduate training in Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) in 1992, with my masters’ thesis on effective group DMT practice with women surviving domestic violence. I am a practical person, and so my aim is to ensure therapy addresses client’s issues with care and sensitivity, restoring a balance in a person’s sense of being, and ultimately enabling them to realise their full potential as human beings. The range of methods of treatment I draw on in my practice include non-verbal communication, movement analysis, creative expression, psychotherapy and trauma therapy, and body-mind centering skills. The more recent trainings have brought a deeper understanding of the neuropsychology of trauma and safe and effective practices that sustain health and wellbeing. I believe my maturity, with many years of self-development and personal therapy, brings a wisdom and groundedness to my practice that allows clients to feel at ease, and truly seen and heard. 2021 I undertook the Richman training in EMDR - a specific tool to reduce symptoms of PTSD. I will qualify in Feb 2023.
